Ingredients
5.25lbs of organic skinless, boneless chicken breast, diced (entire 3-pack here)
3.5lbs of sweet potatoes, including skin
642 grams of frozen broccoli, chopped
492 grams of diced apple
144 grams of high oleic safflower oil
7 grams of fish oil (link)
25 grams of Morton Iodized Salt (it must be iodized!)
75 grams of Balance IT Canine Plus supplement (link)
Tools
Food scale
1 large pots
1 baking sheet
Cutting board and knife
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F. Spread the diced sweet potatoes across the baking sheet and roast uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender and slightly browned. Once done, set aside to cool.
While the sweet potatoes are roasting, heat the safflower oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced chicken breast to the pot, cooking until it is fully cooked and no longer pink.
Add the frozen, chopped broccoli to the pot with the chicken, stirring occasionally until the broccoli softens.
Allow the chicken and broccoli mixture to cool to room temperature.
Once all the ingredients have cooled, add the roasted sweet potatoes and diced apples to the pot with the chicken and broccoli. Stir well to combine.
Mix in the fish oil and the Morton Iodized Salt.
Finally, add the Balance IT® Canine supplement and stir thoroughly to ensure even distribution throughout the mixture
Portion the mixture according to your dog's size and caloric needs. Store the portions in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.
Serve your dog a hearty portion of this delicious and nutritious feast, and watch their tail wag in delight!
Tips and Notes
The recipe can be halved or doubled based on your needs and the size of your dog.
Always wait for the food to cool down to at least below 70 degrees Celsius (feels only slightly warm if you stick your finger in) before adding the fish oil and Balance IT Canine supplement. Heat can degrade the oil and vitamins.
Remember to consult our 'how much to feed' guide to determine the appropriate portion size for your dog.
I've started adding iodized salt to my recipes because, while we often hear about the dangers of too much salt in our own diets, a moderate amount is essential for our canine companions. Salt plays a crucial role in maintaining proper cell function and hydration in dogs. Specifically, iodized salt is beneficial because it provides iodine, a vital nutrient that supports thyroid health. Iodine deficiency can lead to issues like hypothyroidism, which affects your dog's metabolism and can cause weight gain, skin problems, and lethargy. Remember, while a small amount of salt is necessary, too much can be harmful. Always measure out the correct amount as per the recipe or your vet's guidelines and ensure your dog has plenty of fresh water available to help regulate their sodium levels. If your dog has a specific health condition, consult with your vet about their dietary needs. Moderation is key when it comes to salt in your dog's diet.
