550 grams of uncooked quick oats (link)
1400 grams of sweet potatoes, diced with flesh and skin
462 grams of frozen riced cauliflower
476 grams of summer squash, diced
490 grams of diced raw pears
28 grams of fish oil (link)
42 grams of Balance IT Canine Plus supplement (link)
Tools
Food scale
2 large pots
2 large baking sheets
Cutting board and knife
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 450°F. Spread the diced sweet potatoes across the baking sheets and roast uncovered for 25 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender.
While the sweet potatoes are cooking, add water that is 2x the volume of oats in a large pot and bring to a boil. Stir in oats and reduce heat to medium; cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat, and allow the oats to cool to room temperature.
Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
Add the cauliflower and summer squash to the beef. Mix well to combine and sauté for another 3-4 minutes, until everything is cooked and tender.
Turn off the heat and add the diced pears to the skillet, stirring to combine.
Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Once the roasted sweet potatoes, oats, and beef mixture are all cool, combine, and add the fish oil and Balance IT Plus supplement to the mixture, stirring well to ensure even distribution.
Portion the mixture into daily serving sizes according to your dog's size and calorie needs, and store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
Serve today's portion of food to your dog, watching them enjoy their delicious and nutritious meal!
Tips and Notes
If you don't want to make this much food, you can make 1/3 or 2/3rds of the recipe because the beef comes in a 3-pack
This recipe provides 7 days of food for my dog, but please see the 'how much to feed' guide to determine the appropriate amount for your own dog.
Wait for the food to cool to at least below 70 degrees Celsius (feels only slightly warm if you stick your finger in) before adding the fish oil and Balance IT Plus supplement. The heat can degrade the oil and vitamins.
Heads up: the oats can take a long time to cool.
